Families

Every wall, door and tag in a Revit model comes from a family, and a change to a type or parameter reaches every view, schedule and sheet that uses it. These guides cover system, loadable and in-place families, building one from a template and loading it into a project.

How to load a family in Revit and place it in a project

Insert tab, Load from Library panel, Load Family brings an RFA into one project and lists it under Families in the Project Browser. Then place it, with a desk as the example, reload it after the file changes, and see why a family saved in a newer release stays out of reach.
