To put a door in a Revit curtain wall, replace one curtain panel with a curtain wall door in the Type Selector. Size its cell with curtain grids, unpin the panel if it is pinned, and remove the mullion directly under the door. The replacement can be [tagged and scheduled as a door](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-D67C16F6-D085-4D45-ADC6-EFD76DE8C672.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

The steps below use Revit 2027 on Windows in English. [Revit LT 2027 uses the same panel replacement](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/RevitLT-ArchDes/files/GUID-4B806EBE-2B46-4889-BC12-77FA23BFBA88.htm?ref=revitclub.net). Start with an existing curtain wall and open an elevation of it; that view lets you draw the grids, select the panel and clear the bottom mullion.

## Load a curtain wall door family first

A curtain wall door is a specialized panel. The ordinary Door command cannot place it in the glazing, as [Autodesk's curtain wall door demonstration](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2025/ENU/RevitLT-GetStarted/files/GUID-ACC318F2-D6C6-4A8F-B498-4B7D043B65E9.htm?ref=revitclub.net) explains. Finish or cancel that command before selecting the panel.

Click **Insert tab > Load from Library panel > Load Family**. In the Doors folder, select a door family with *curtain wall* in its name and click Open. Those are [Autodesk's loading instructions for a compatible door](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-4B806EBE-2B46-4889-BC12-77FA23BFBA88.htm?ref=revitclub.net); a regular wall-hosted door cannot replace the panel.

If the Doors folder is missing, check which library the dialog opened. Revit content is installed separately from the application, and your project may use a library in another location. The documented default for full Revit 2027 is [%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\\Autodesk\\RVT 2027\\Libraries](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-Model/files/GUID-2A6C26DE-63D7-48E8-A986-CAB6C362049A.htm?ref=revitclub.net). [LT uses its own RLT library folder](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/RevitLT-Model/files/GUID-2A6C26DE-63D7-48E8-A986-CAB6C362049A.htm?ref=revitclub.net), so don't look for the full Revit folder there.

Another option in full Revit is **Insert tab > Load from Library panel > Load Autodesk Family**. It searches Autodesk's cloud content and [requires both a subscription and internet access](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-Model/files/GUID-9918E806-7F1A-483A-85CF-7D9EE86C1663.htm?ref=revitclub.net). End any active command if its button is gray. For library locations and the cloud search, continue with [loading a Revit family](https://revitclub.net/load-family-revit/).

## Keep the change on the entrance you are editing

A panel swap and a curtain wall type change reach different parts of the model. For one entrance, use the selected panel's Type Selector and leave the wall type's defaults alone.

| Set it here | It reaches | Choose it when |
| ----------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Curtain Grid, using One Segment or All Segments | One panel or all panels crossed by the placement preview | You need cell boundaries at the door jambs and head |
| Type Selector on the selected, unpinned panel | That panel | You want that cell to become a door |
| Delete on the unpinned mullion beneath the door | That mullion | You need to clear the bottom of the opening |
| The curtain wall's Type Properties | All curtain walls of that type in the project | You intend to change the wall type's panel, grid or mullion defaults |

In the wall's Type Properties, Curtain Panel sets its default panel family type; Border 1 Type under Horizontal Mullions sets its bottom border mullion. [Changes to those type properties apply to all instances](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-B9263125-74EA-4C78-AAAA-F40916EFE2DB.htm?ref=revitclub.net), so they are the wrong controls for a single door opening.

Preset grids and mullions may be pinned to the wall's type-driven layout. [A pinned grid or mullion follows that layout's type properties](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-F823EB16-8673-4E2E-82DA-4036D05733D4.htm?ref=revitclub.net). Unpin the element you need to change; the steps don't require changing the whole layout.

## Size the door cell with curtain grids

The curtain wall door [takes the size of the panel it replaces](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2025/ENU/RevitLT-GetStarted/files/GUID-ACC318F2-D6C6-4A8F-B498-4B7D043B65E9.htm?ref=revitclub.net). I'd establish the cell before the swap because then you can check its boundaries while it is still glazing. A curtain panel's size [isn't set with drag controls or panel properties](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-D67C16F6-D085-4D45-ADC6-EFD76DE8C672.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

![Two curtain wall elevations show the bounded panel cell and the door after removal of only its bottom mullion](https://storage.ghost.io/c/85/87/8587d5e4-79c0-44e6-83d8-329eb0b5abe6/content/images/2026/11/cell-door-threshold-2027-e0d6c0bd75a1.webp)

Grids bound the panel cell. After the swap, remove only the mullion below the door; keep its jamb and head mullions. The orange line at the threshold belongs to the door, not a remaining mullion. [Open full-size view](https://storage.ghost.io/c/85/87/8587d5e4-79c0-44e6-83d8-329eb0b5abe6/content/images/2026/11/cell-door-threshold-2027-e0d6c0bd75a1.webp?ref=revitclub.net)

1. In the elevation, click **Architecture tab > Build panel > Curtain Grid**.
2. On **Modify | Place Curtain Grid tab > Placement panel**, choose **One Segment** to place a segment on one panel, or **All Segments** to cross all panels where the preview appears. [One Segment keeps the grid edit within the previewed panel](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-B1E3A57E-5843-4E6C-8A05-9639A4D84864.htm?ref=revitclub.net).
3. Move the cursor along the wall edge until the temporary grid line is at the door jamb, then click. Add the other jamb boundary if needed, and a horizontal head boundary if the door is shorter than the panel row. Existing boundaries can form part of the cell.
4. Press Esc or click Modify when you have finished. Each section between the grids has its own panel.

For a precise jamb or head position, use a visible reference plane as the target: [curtain grids snap to visible levels, grids and reference planes](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-A6565ECE-C1CC-48E7-8120-2BC706B196CD.htm?ref=revitclub.net). Check the finished cell by moving the cursor over its edge and pressing Tab until the panel highlights. Its highlight should cover exactly the intended door area.

If an existing grid crosses the opening, join the affected panels before the swap. Select the grid, then use **Modify | Curtain Wall Grids tab > Curtain Grid panel > Add/Remove Segments**. [Clicking a segment removes it and joins the adjacent panels](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-134DD38D-5D73-4044-88F0-E215D04F945F.htm?ref=revitclub.net); click empty drawing space to finish. If the grid is pinned, unpin it before editing. The same tool can [restore a removed segment when you click its dashed line](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-C13AC7DE-2F62-45F7-92FA-0C52E49E2668.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

## Select the panel, unpin it and change its type

1. Move the cursor over an edge of the door cell until the wall or a mullion highlights.
2. Press **Tab** until the panel itself highlights, then click. You can also make this selection in a plan or 3D view.
3. If a pin appears, click it to unpin the panel. An X beside the pin indicates that it is unlocked. The ribbon alternative is **Modify | <Element> tab > Modify panel > Unpin**; [unpinning lets this panel override its host system's properties](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-Model/files/GUID-C8C50A49-4C0C-41E5-8C96-D163C7085F1D.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

![Selected central curtain panel with its unpinned pushpin and X enlarged](https://storage.ghost.io/c/85/87/8587d5e4-79c0-44e6-83d8-329eb0b5abe6/content/images/2026/11/panel-unpin-2027-08094eb5d681.webp)

The X beside this panel's pin marks its unpinned state. [Open full-size view](https://storage.ghost.io/c/85/87/8587d5e4-79c0-44e6-83d8-329eb0b5abe6/content/images/2026/11/panel-unpin-2027-08094eb5d681.webp?ref=revitclub.net)

1. With the panel selected, open the **Type Selector** at the top of the Properties palette. Choose the loaded curtain wall door. If the list is long, [use the search field that appears when you open the selector](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-GetStarted/files/GUID-2EC56489-AFA3-4593-B161-BEC461FC8E27.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

![Revit 2027 Type Selector with the Door-Curtain-Wall-Double-Storefront type indented beneath its family heading](https://storage.ghost.io/c/85/87/8587d5e4-79c0-44e6-83d8-329eb0b5abe6/content/images/2026/11/door-type-selector-2027-68455032dd4f.webp)

Choose your loaded door type's indented row beneath its family heading. The displayed family is an example. [Open full-size view](https://storage.ghost.io/c/85/87/8587d5e4-79c0-44e6-83d8-329eb0b5abe6/content/images/2026/11/door-type-selector-2027-68455032dd4f.webp?ref=revitclub.net)

The cell should now contain a door that fits its boundaries. If the list contains no curtain wall door, return to Load Family and check the family you loaded. [Only a curtain wall door can directly replace a curtain panel](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-4B806EBE-2B46-4889-BC12-77FA23BFBA88.htm?ref=revitclub.net); loading an ordinary door does not make it compatible.

If the frame appears but its handles do not, check the view's detail level. [Autodesk's demonstration notes that handles may need a different detail level](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2025/ENU/RevitLT-GetStarted/files/GUID-ACC318F2-D6C6-4A8F-B498-4B7D043B65E9.htm?ref=revitclub.net), depending on the family.

## Remove only the mullion under the door

Highlight the bottom mullion beneath the door and click to select it. If it is pinned, click its pin, then press **Delete**. If it is already unpinned, delete it directly. This is the [mullion removal in Autodesk's door procedure](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-4B806EBE-2B46-4889-BC12-77FA23BFBA88.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

Check the elevation: the door should reach the base of the wall, with no mullion underneath. Keep the jamb and head mullions. [Removing that bottom mullion lets the door extend to the wall base](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2025/ENU/RevitLT-GetStarted/files/GUID-ACC318F2-D6C6-4A8F-B498-4B7D043B65E9.htm?ref=revitclub.net); changing the wall type's bottom border default would affect the rest of the wall type.

If a new jamb needs a mullion, click **Architecture tab > Build panel > Mullion**, choose its type, then choose **Grid Line Segment** on Modify | Place Mullion. That places it on the segment you click. Use [Grid Line when you intend to cover the whole grid line](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-234F69C3-516A-4866-91D7-81B762170D4E.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

## Check the door in a plan tag and a door schedule

A door-shaped elevation is only the first check. Open a floor plan that cuts through the entrance, then read the same element as a door in its tag and schedule.

Load a door tag family if one is not already in the project. Click **Annotate tab > Tag panel > Tag by Category**, choose the tag orientation and optional Leader, then click the door. The [tag tool uses the loaded tag for that element category](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-DocumentPresent/files/GUID-D0F587E1-863F-4BDB-8347-2D018EE2406F.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

A door tag normally reads the door's **Mark**. Read its actual value after the swap; if it is blank or duplicates another door, select the door and edit Mark under Identity Data in the Properties palette. [Revit warns about duplicate door Marks but permits them](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-08C6541F-4974-489E-B941-F365628B2884.htm?ref=revitclub.net). If the tag does not display, check the annotation crop: [any part of the door outside that crop can prevent its tag appearing](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-FA6A7BA4-7512-46C5-89AA-95F28F236E27.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

Open an existing door schedule, or click **View tab > Create panel > Schedules drop-down > Schedule/Quantities**. In New Schedule, choose **Doors**, keep **Schedule building components** selected, set the phase and click OK. Add Mark and the other required fields on the Fields tab of Schedule Properties, following the [schedule creation sequence](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-DocumentPresent/files/GUID-6D4DBBDA-3611-40CD-9A45-BE40EB07188A.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

For the check, select **Itemize every instance** on the **Sorting/Grouping** tab. [That gives each instance its own row](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-DocumentPresent/files/GUID-3ED9C7F0-C340-4317-BCE6-327638ED4A39.htm?ref=revitclub.net), so you can compare the curtain wall door's Mark with its plan tag. If the door is missing, check the schedule's phase and filters before rebuilding the entrance: [every schedule filter must be satisfied for an element to display](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-DocumentPresent/files/GUID-C5140A8E-EDB3-4C99-84F0-9299D5136369.htm?ref=revitclub.net).

## Use a wall panel only when you need a wall-hosted door

A different route is to change the curtain panel to an ordinary wall type in the Type Selector, then [place a standard door into that wall panel](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-BCDC7124-7361-4336-9310-34D6DB175B70.htm?ref=revitclub.net). Here, [inserts remain fixed relative to the entire curtain wall when its panel grids move](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-D67C16F6-D085-4D45-ADC6-EFD76DE8C672.htm?ref=revitclub.net). I would use that route for solid infill with a settled door position; for glazing whose grid is still changing, the curtain wall door follows the cell you intended to change.

If the design needs a custom curtain wall door, make or obtain a compatible family before attempting the panel swap. Converting an ordinary door is a separate family-editing task, not another placement option in the selector. The groundwork belongs with [Revit families](https://revitclub.net/families-in-revit/).

To remove the door later, [select it and change its type back to a curtain wall panel](https://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2027/ENU/Revit-ArchDesign/files/GUID-4B806EBE-2B46-4889-BC12-77FA23BFBA88.htm?ref=revitclub.net). If you need to change the whole glazed facade first, continue with curtain wall grids and mullions.
